Taking conflicting stand on the INDIA alliance, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today questioned its relevance after the Lok Sabha elections, but his father and President of the National Conference Dr. Farooq Abdullah said “Those who think it was just for Parliamentary elections, should come out of this misconception”.
While Omar was talking to reporters in Jammu, Farooq was replying to questions at a function in Kathua district.
Omar lashed out at the scornful campaign between the AAP and Congress ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls and said the INDIA bloc should be wound up in case it was set up just for the Lok Sabha elections. However, his father Farooq Abdullah said “As far as alliance is concerned, alliance exists in everything, and not limited to contesting elections. The alliance exists to strengthen the country and remove hatred from our country”.
Omar’s remarks came a day after the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the INDIA alliance has lost its significance as it was specifically formed for the Lok Sabha elections.
Omar responded to questions of reporters about AAP and Congress resorting to bitter poll campaign against each other in Delhi, by saying that unity lacks among the opposition.
They should wind up the alliance in case it was just for the Lok Sabha elections, Omar said.
Reacting to Omar’s remarks, Peoples Conference chief and MLA, Sajad Lone wrote on X “Now our CM wants the INDIA alliance to be disbanded. He wants to be banded to the BJP. So desperate. But anybody even with a pea sized brain in Kashmir won’t be surprised. We all knew it. The ‘All others are BJP’ discourse was Pre scripted”.
