Srinagar :- The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has released a detailed weather advisory predicting sustained precipitation in Jammu and Kashmir through March 3, with meteorologists expecting a much-needed dry spell to ensue. As per the official bulletin issued today, March 1-2 will see generally cloudy skies with scattered places likely to see light rain or snowfall by late evening on March 2, paving the way for more widespread weather activity.
March 3 will see more substantial weather interruptions as meteorologists forecast light to moderate rain and snowfall in most parts of the union territory. People and tourists in the upper reaches of North and Central Kashmir are likely to experience tough conditions, with moderate to heavy snowfall being forecasted that can fall fast and impact visibility and road conditions in these regions. The pattern of precipitation is expected to cease temporarily with an opening window of dry weather between March 4 and March 9, providing a vital relief for recovery activities and normal routines.
Long-term forecasts, however, suggest yet another weather system heading towards the area, with new rain and snowfall expected between the 10th and 12th of March, indicating that winter weather will remain in its grasp on the region well into the month. As a response to these predictions, precautionary warnings have been issued by authorities to various sectors.
Transport operators and travelers are highly advised to check traffic updates prior to driving onto roads, while the farming community has been warned to halt irrigation and cultivation until at least March 4 to avoid possible damage to crops. Moreover, authorities have urged caution among residents in historically weather-hazard-prone regions, particularly for landslides, rockfalls, and avalanches that are normally associated with prolonged rainfall in the mountainous regions.
