GMC Jammu or Covid death chamber? 95 patients die in just five days

Even as the government of Jammu and Kashmir has claimed that there is no dearth of oxygen, beds and other health infrastructure in the UT, a shocking data has revealed that Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu has witnessed death of 95 Covid patients in just five days.

The official data explains the status of health infrastructure at the only premier government hospital of Jammu which is catering to the Covid patients of the region.

J&K witnessed a total of 301 deaths in five days out of which 95 occurred in GMC only.

As per official records, out of total 56 deaths in the UT, 23 Covid deaths were reported from GMC Jammu on May 10. On May 11, the total number of deaths was 65 out of which 16 occurred at GMC while on May 12 total number of people who died due to Covid in UT was again 65 and but GMC reported 18 deaths.

The number of total deaths on May 13 was 55 but GMC reported 16 Covid fatalities and on May 14 while the number of total deaths was 60, the number of deaths at GMC rose to 22.

GMC Jammu has come under severe criticism for lack of facilities after which Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh also took stock of the situation.

At the meeting, Dr Jitendra Singh was informed by Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma that the exercise to audit oxygen and ventilators has already been initiated. Similarly, the Principal also informed that the process to engage MBBS and PG students in the ward work had also begun.
