The National Health Mission (NHM) workers were manhandled and tried to be removed by police officials as NHM workers have been protesting since three days outside Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.

Several police officials tried to remove the NHM workers who worked as Covid warriors during peak pandemic. The NHM workers were protesting against the abrupt termination of their services when the police including women constables used force and dragged them into police vehicles and then resorted to lathicharge.

As per reports, the government has terminated over 1,500 such employees from services.

Protestors raised anti-government slogans and blocked the road for hours to press their demand for continuation of their services.

One of the female NHM workers said that they have risked their lives to save others during the peak of Covid-19 pandemic and asked what has the government done with them. She further added that they have dumped them.

Sunita Devi, an NHM employee said that government practiced the ‘use and throw’ policy with them and that is not accepted. She further said that they had joined service at GMCH at the peak of the first wave of Covid-19 last year when no one wanted to come out of their homes. She further added that they were promised regularization but now are thrown away.
