Union Ministry of Home Affairs is working hard to secure the release of CRPF personnel Rakeshwar Singh Manhas who was captured by Maoists in forest area of Chhattisgarh.

Manhas belongs to Jammu and was serving in the Cobra battalion of CRPF when he was captured during an operation against Maoists in dense forest area of the state. Initially it was reported that Manhas was missing but it came out later that he has been apparently captured by Maoists.

Soon after the reports of his capture, local intelligence wing of police as well as central intelligence agencies came into action and tried to know about the whereabouts of Manhas in captivity of Maoists. A phone call purportedly by a Maoist leader to local journalists declared that Rakeshwar Singh was fine and will be released, however the time of his release was not disclosed.

Sources have informed that the senior police officials of Chhattisgarh along with CRPF were now in contact of Maoists over safe release of Manhas whose family in Jammu was inconsolable.

Sources said that as of now no demand has been kept forward by the Maoists for safe release of Manhas but “agencies are in regular contact with the ultras”.
