Government of J&K issues temporary appointments for senior stenographers

The General Administration Department, Jammu & Kashmir (GAD) has approved a temporary “stop-gap” arrangement under an order dated 1 December 2025.

As per the order, a number of senior-scale stenographers across various departments have been assigned the role of “Incharge Private Secretaries to Heads of Departments (Gazetted)”, in their current pay and grade — with applicable charge allowance.

The deputation is for six months or until regular appointments are made through the proper selection process (DPC/PSC), whichever comes first.

The list includes officers from different wings such as medical colleges, directorates (e.g., Audit & Inspections, Information & Public Relations, Accounts & Treasuries, Education, Employment, etc.), indicating that the measure covers a wide administrative spectrum.

The order makes clear that this arrangement does not grant any preferential claim or right to these officers for future promotion to Private Secretary — and their status remains temporary, subject to the finalization of regular appointments or any pending legal proceedings.
