Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India has issued a show cause notice to the University of Jammu asking why the community radio station should not be cancelled as they have failed to complete the required formalities within the stipulated time.
The ministry vide no: 103/102/2020-CSR has issued a show cause notice to University of Jammu (JU), Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh and Kashmir Research Institute of Education and Solar Technology (KRIEST) Anantnag and Amar Singh College, Srinagar asking them to as to why the Letter of Intent (LOI) issued to them for setting up of community radio station should not be cancelled.
JU is a NAAC accredited A+ institution.
These organizations had made an application to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting requesting for permission for setting up of a community radio station. LOI was issued to these organizations for setting up of the radio stations.
LOI was issued to JU on May 9, 2014, MIMC on July 13, 2016, KRIEST on February 7, 2018 and Amar Singh College on January 11, 2019.
Within one month of issue of LOI, organizations were required to apply, in the prescribed format and with the requisite fee to the Wireless Planning Coordination (WPC) Wing of the Ministry of Communication and IT, Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi for Frequency allocation (FA) and SACFA Clearances.
These applicants were required to adhere to the schedule as mentioned in the LOI failing which LOI was liable to be cancelled. However these top institutions failed to communicate back to the Ministry of I&B.
Therefore the Ministry has now issued a show cause notice to these institutions to reply back within 30 days, failing which their LOI for the community radio stations will be cancelled. “In case these institutions failed to justified reasons, or do not send a reply within stipulated time, it will be presumed that the organization has nothing to say in this regard and the LOI issued will be cancelled” read the show cause notice.
