HC disposes AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s security cover plea, orders review of his security threat

Today the petition of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik was listed before Justice Sanjay Dhar of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh at Jammu.

When the matter was taken up for hearing, Advocate Appu Singh Slathia vociferously  argued on behalf of the petitioner, MLA Mehraj Malik. Furthermore, Senior AAG Monika Kohli appeared for the State. Moreover, Principal Secretary Home Department; DGP – J&K;  ADGP Security – Jammu – J&K;  IGP Security – Jammu – J&K; DIG Doda Kishtwar Ramban range; SSP (Security) Jammu and SSP Doda were the respondents in the above-mentioned petition.

Advocate Slathia argued that since the quashment of the PSA of Mehraj Malik on the 27th of April 2026,  the State has not restored his security cover along with the escort vehicle. Advocate Slathia was emphatic that the State is oblivious to the security threat faced by Malik. She further added that MLA  Doda’s political engagements involve frequent travel across the Union Territory of J&K including Kashmir; grassroot level meetings; community interactions and proliferation of engagements and the petitioner is under constant security threat.

Advocate Slathia was emphatic that the petitioner MLA has been singled out as all the other MLAs of Jammu and Kashmir have been provided escort vehicle with proper security cover. She added that the petitioner is being made to suffer because of his disparate views especially with respect to the ruling government at the Centre and  the government in power in the Union Territory of J&K. Furthermore, she also submitted before the esteemed Court that till date none of the meticulously drafted representations have been replied to by the respondents. Rather, the DGP of J&K  has not bothered to respond to the MLA’s innocuous representation dated 3rd of August 2026. She added that coming from a terror prone area, the life of MLA Doda is at risk and if something gruesome happens, there will be serious ramifications. She reiterated that his security is infused with threat perception and his security cover along with the escort vehicle should be restored immediately.

After hearing Advocate Appu Singh Slathia appearing for the petitioner, the High Court while disposing of the petition,  directed the respondents to consider the representations of the petitioner.  Furthermore, the Court has directed the SRCC, Security Review Coordination Committee to look into the threat perception of the petitioner MLA and take a decision within six weeks from the date of the Court’s order.
