Heavy rains drenched Jammu and Kashmir on Monday while an incident of cloudburst was reported in Ganderbal district of the UT which triggered flash floods.
Heavy rainfall has crippled the normal life in the district. Many residential houses and roads were damaged due to flash floods but no loss of life has been reported so far.
As per the weather department, in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am Jammu witnessed the highest rainfall (150mm) in the region, followed by 76mm in Katra and 28mm in Kashmir’s Khanbal.
“As expected very heavy shower occurred at many places of plains of Jammu whereas moderate shower (has been) reported at many places of Kashmir and hilly area of Jammu,” said Director of Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus.
It has been predicted by The India Meteorological Department (IMD) that heavy showers is expected over several parts of north India by Monday. The department official further stated that heavy rains may lead to more flash floods and landslides in hilly areas.
