Udhampur :- In a critical development addressing public safety, Congress District Working President Sumeet Magotra conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing National Highway construction project following serious safety concerns raised by residents of Siyal Salan and Thanda Badar. During a comprehensive walking tour of neighborhoods adjacent to the highway, local residents brought to light significant challenges posed by the ongoing infrastructure development.
Residents have highlighted a dangerous situation where the highway widening project has effectively bisected their community, creating life-threatening crossing conditions. With no safe passage available, locals are forced to risk their lives while attempting to cross the busy road. The former Sarpanch of the area personally emphasized the urgency of finding an immediate solution to this critical safety issue.
Magotra acknowledged the complex challenges faced by the local community, noting that many residents now find their farmlands and homes separated by the highway. This separation creates particularly hazardous conditions, especially for individuals who must carry fodder for livestock and navigate across fast-moving traffic lanes.
The local community, comprising approximately 200 families including numerous school-going children, has made a unified request for either an overbridge or an underpass to ensure safe crossing. In response to these concerns, Magotra committed to meeting with the District Commissioner the following day to discuss the community’s demands with National Highway authorities and prevent potential fatal accidents.
The safety issue demands immediate attention, as it directly impacts the daily commute of hundreds of residents and poses significant risks to their lives. Local residents remain hopeful for a swift resolution that will provide them with safe and reliable infrastructure for crossing the National Highway.
