The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) Srinagar has paid almost four and a half lakhs to a particular guest lecturer for delivering lectures at the Institute for two and a half years.
Documents reveal that Rs. 4,40,342 were paid to the guest lecturer for his services of two and a half years. The guest lecturer started his tenure with the IASE in January 2017 and worked until July 2019. The guest lecturer was continuously paid even though there were exams in between in the institute and he had not to take any classes.
He was paid Rs. 22,000 for 12 months, Rs. 12,000 for 10 months and some other amount for other months. The man in question is more than 71 years old and has an experience of more than 35 years in the field of education. Without giving any chance to any other professional, the IASE chose this man as a guest lecturer.
Sources told Early Times that the reason why he was selected as a guest lecturer was that he was close to the corridors of powers at IASE Srinagar. That’s why he was showered with all the benefits and was chosen as the sole guest lecturer at the Institute.
Sources said that a guest lecturer is only employed for some months in a year and not for the full academic session. But in this case, the institution apparently forgot about the rules and regulations.
The guest lecturer was paid Rs. 22,000 each month from April 2018 to November 2018 & April 2019 to July 2019, Rs. 12,000 each month from February 2017 to July 2017, Rs. 16,322 for December 2018, Rs. 16,324 for March 2019, Rs. 6,000 for September 2017, Rs. 10,453 for March 2018, Rs. 4,285 for February 2018, Rs. 2,836 for March 2018 and Rs. 1,161 for January 2017.
Sources said that the guest lecturer received amounts like Rs. 22,000 for 12 months and Rs. 12,000 for 10 months on different occasions which is an unusually high amount for any guest lecturer. Moreover, the guest lecturer should be paid varying amount unlike, in this case.
Sources believe that the guest lecturer would have continued if not for the fateful event on August 5, 2019, when Jammu & Kashmir was changed into a union territory. Moreover, a secret deal between the guest lecturer and the people at helm at IASE Srinagar could also have taken place.
