Srinagar : In a breakthrough, Srinagar Police have arrested a gang of thieves who had been posing as Special Police Commandos to rob trucks at night. The arrests came after a February 22, 2025, incident when Haryana truck driver Chanchal Singh lodged a complaint at Shalteng Police Station that unknown men had intercepted his vehicle at Maloora Shalteng, threatened him with weapons, and stolen money and valuables. Police have recovered various items employed in the crime, such as dummy guns, a car, black commando-like uniforms, and other evidence against them.
After the complaint, the authorities promptly filed a case (FIR No. 15 U/S 307, 126(2), 3(5)) and initiated an exhaustive investigation. There were several teams of police, using technical resources from ESU West in association with human intelligence, to search for the perpetrators. Through vigilant examination of telephonic call details and comprehensive field investigations, the investigators narrowed down and arrested the offenders accordingly. The quick response by Srinagar Police has restored safety for truck drivers traveling along the region, who were exposed to such late-night highway robberies.
