Inclement weather in J&K: Most districts on high alert; helpline numbers issued

In wake of warning issued over inclement weather in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration in Union Territory is on its toes.

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din today convened a meeting of all concerned officers to review the situation arisen due to Snowfall in the district.

The DC was informed that all measures have been put in place already to tackle the situation and Snow has been cleared from all major roads and traffic is plying normally on Kupwara-Handwara; Kupwara-Sopore; Kupwara-Chowkibal; Kupwara-Lolab; Kupwara-Kalaroose; Kupwara-Vilgam; Handwara-Zachaldara; Handwara-Langate; Kupwara-Hyhama and other such routes.

AEE Mechanical informed that 15 machines are available with the Mechanical department which include 13 Snow clearance machines, 1 dozer and 1 backhoe loader (JCB).

All supplies including power, water, and road connectivity to all hospitals, government offices and emergency establishments have been restored fully.

Meanwhile, traffic movement on the border roads of Karnah, Keran and Machil has already been restricted to prevent any untoward incident due to Snowfall.

The O&M Circle Jammu of Power Development Corporation Ltd has aligned the control rooms to provide possible assistance and help regarding power supply to general public in view of the inclement weather advisory issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) for J&K from 3rd of January to 9th of January, 2022.

In a first of its kind in Shopian district and continuing its endeavor to provide every possible help in case of heavy snowfall in the district, the District Administration Shopian today distributed emergency equipments among various Departments/ Tehsil Offices of the district at mini secretariat Arhama. The emergency equipment was distributed among PDD, R&B, MC, Forest, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, PHE and Mechanical engineering etc. They were advised to gear up for any exigency occurring on account of heavy snowfall and road blockade thereof wherein their services may be required.
