Meet the Jammu girl who left Delhi to establish her bakery business

Seema Gupta (44) would often call her daughter Tanya who was working as a chef instructor with Truffle Nations in Delhi to get the recipe to bake cakes or cookies. Tanya who worked in Delhi shifted to her home in Jammu in January this year. During the lockdown and after that, Tanya noticed that many businesses were shutting down and they were laying off their staff, small scale, home food business ventures were functioning well. Tanya says that she saw potential in this business. She realized that People wanted good quality and hygienic food products so, she started a venture keeping in mind the same. Initially, she would often bake cakes for friends and family. Soon her business which she set up with her mother, started witnessing requests for larger orders. She has not taken even a single leave and now receives, on an average six orders every day. She is planning to add more products to the menu. As the festive season is going on, she is now receiving more orders than usual. Diwali was the peak period of her business. She makes various kinds of Cakes, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, and breads. Initially, It was her father, Rakesh Gupta, who helped her to set up the business – ‘Baking World by Tanya’. Now, she manages her business by herself and doesn’t anyone else to invest anything into it. Other than that word-of-mouth from satisfied customers, she didn’t invest in any other form of marketing. Her business Instagram page has over 4,000 followers. As time passed, Tanya started getting more audience on her page. She says that there are times when people would just message on social media platforms to tell her that the cake which she posted looks so pretty. They are not even residents of Jammu, and that makes her happy.
