With the objective of providing better amenities to passengers and eradicating the problem of ticketless travel, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway conducted a comprehensive ticket checking drive during the month of April 2026. Under this campaign, the Division generated revenue exceeding ₹76 lakhs.
Under the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, ticket checking teams conducted intensive inspections at major stations—such as Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Udhampur, and Pathankot Cantt—as well as on various trains passing through the Division. During the month of April, more than 13,000 passengers were apprehended traveling without tickets or with irregular tickets. Consequently, fines amounting to over ₹76 lakhs were collected from passengers engaged in ticketless or irregular travel. The primary objective of the ticket checking drive conducted in the Jammu Division is to ensure a comfortable journey for passengers, coupled with improved amenities.
Looking at the key aspects of this ticket checking drive, the aim of these regular inspections is not only to boost revenue but also to safeguard the interests of passengers holding valid tickets. The key benefits include:
Ensuring a pleasant and peaceful journey for passengers in reserved categories by removing ticketless travelers. Regarding the ticket-checking drive conducted during April 2026:
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, stated, “Our primary objective is to provide passengers with a safe and dignified travel experience. The ticket-checking drive is not merely intended to impose penalties, but rather to foster awareness among passengers. We appeal to passengers to always travel with a valid ticket and to utilize the railway’s digital payment systems, such as the ‘UTS on Mobile’ app and the ‘RailOne’ app.
In the future, these drives will be made even more effective to ensure that honest passengers do not face any inconvenience.”
The Jammu Division requests passengers not to purchase tickets from unauthorized vendors and to always enter the station premises with a valid ticket to ensure a pleasant journey.
