Jammu-Srinagar National Highway severely disrupted by heavy snow and landslides

Jammu : The crucial Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been rendered impassable, severely disrupting travel between the region’s two major cities, according to official reports.

The primary cause of the blockage is significant snow accumulation between the areas of Ramsu and Qazigund. Complicating matters further, the highway is also experiencing hazardous conditions between Nashri and the NAVYUG Tunnel, where travelers face the dangers of shooting stones, landslides, and mudslides. The impact of the severe weather extends beyond the main highway, as the Batote-Doda road has also been closed due to a landslide at Ragi Nalla.

In addition, further travel disruptions are occurring due to heavy snowfall and landslides that have forced the closure of the SSG Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Road. In light of these perilous conditions, authorities are issuing urgent advisories to all commuters, strongly recommending that travel on these affected routes be avoided until extensive clearance operations can be successfully completed. The combination of heavy snowfall and unstable ground conditions has created a challenging situation for road crews, and it is unknown how long the closures will remain in effect.
