A Cabinet meeting that will be held in Jammu on Wednesday will discuss that 50 percent of seats and jobs remain available for the general category candidates in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Cabinet sub-committee has already cleared the report on reservation in which, as per reports, the quota of open merit candidates has been suggested to increase.
While the sub-committee report has not touched the quota of ST 1, ST 2 and Scheduled Caste (SC), it has suggested reduction in the reservation of Residents of Backward Areas (RBA) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
It was in March last year when the Parliament had given an additional reservation to the groups including Paharis, Gadda Brahmins, Koli and others who were included in the ST list. They were given an additional 10 percent quota in jobs and educational institutions under ST 2 category in J&K which brought down the reservation of the general category.
The cabinet meeting on Wednesday will discuss the report and send the recommendations to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for approval. However, the cut in reservation will only depend on whether LG agrees to it or not.
