Around 18 All India Services (AIS) officers are expected to be posted in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as they get No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various departments. Some of these officers belong to the Union Territory while others are natives of other states.
Many AIS officers including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and other Services have been posted in Jammu and Kashmir within past few months as a shortage of officers was reported to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Sources informed that about 18 more officers of All India Services can be posted in Jammu and Kashmir soon. Their cases are being processed at various stages in departments. DoPT will soon issue their formal posting orders on inter-cadre deputation to Jammu and Kashmir for a time period of three to five years. Sources said that 18 isn’t the final number as a couple of more officers of All India Services have applied for inter-cadre deputation to Jammu and Kashmir in their own States/Union Territory Governments. Some have applied before the Ministry of Home Affairs while others have applied to the Department of Personnel & Training.
In order to prevent any confusion, the Central Government can direct one department to entertain the cases of transfer and postings of the officers from different All India Services to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This department could function under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs or the Department of Personnel & Training. Moreover, a single email ID could be also notified to the officers who want to apply. Also Read: J&K government likely to close schools with low student enrollment
However, sources said that only one person has applied for posting in the Union Territory of Ladakh. Ladakh has witnessed acute shortage of IAS and IPS officers in Ladakh.
Many have passed IAS exam from Jammu and Kashmir but a lot of them couldn’t get a post in home State/UT because of less number of available posts so, they were deployed in cadre of other States. The freshers will benefit most by this decision of Government as they will have a choice to serve in their home UT.
Jammu and Kashmir UT has a strength of 137 IAS officers but only 58 were working in the Union Territory. Also Read: PDCL employees of J&K may suffer salary crisis in coming months
