J&K traffic advisory issued amid landslide risk, bad weather alerts, Kishtwar-Anantnag road closed, Avalanche risk at Zojila

The Traffic Police advisory for Sunday (5 April) has asked passengers/LMV operators to prefer journeys on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal which may cause inconvenience to commuters.

The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued a detailed traffic advisory for April 5, warning commuters of possible disruptions along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) due to adverse weather and ongoing road conditions.

Slow vehicular movement was recorded over the past 24 hours owing to landslides between Nashri Tunnel and Banihal, along with single-lane traffic at several stretches. Authorities have cautioned that fresh rainfall and snowfall predicted by the Meteorological Department may further impact road conditions.

Subject to fair weather and good road condition, security forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar). Movement will be allowed only after confirming the road status from TCU Ramban.

Commuters have been strongly advised to undertake travel only after confirming road status from Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu, Ramban, and Srinagar. Night travel on NH-44 has been discouraged due to risks of landslides, shooting stones, and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

Traffic movement on NH-44 will remain subject to weather conditions. Light motor vehicles, passenger vehicles, and heavy motor vehicles will be allowed from both sides only if the road remains safe.

However, in view of the Radha Soami Satsang at Najwal, Vijaypur, heavy vehicles (load carriers) will not be permitted from Qazigund towards Jammu during night hours (midnight to 6 am).

The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244) road continues to remain closed for vehicular movement as per administrative orders.

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, vehicles will be allowed towards Kargil only after clearance from road maintenance agencies, keeping in view avalanche risks along the Zojila axis. No movement will be allowed after 10:30 am, and motorists have been advised to carry anti-skid chains.

Meanwhile, the Mughal Road will remain open only for light motor vehicles between 11 am and 3 pm, subject to favorable weather and road conditions.

Authorities have urged commuters to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking, warning that violations could lead to congestion and further delays.
