J&K witnesses a spike in number of IED blasts in the recent past

On Monday morning, security forces avoided a potential major tragedy as they found and defused an improvised explosive device or IED in Nowgam area of Srinagar city. This explosive was placed very close to the rail track.

Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, said that terrorists change their way of working every year. He said that last year, terrorists were attacking naka parties while this year, they are consistently using IEDs as it seems from an increase in the use of IEDs.

IG Vijay Kumar said that a terrorist by name of Hidayatullah was arrested in Jammu. He confessed that a local militant from Bijbehara is an IED expert. He was behind the recent blast in Pazalpora of Bijbehara. IG said that the police will arrest him soon.

On February 16, an explosion shocked the residents of Pazalpora area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir. This bomb exploded near a CRPF patrol party. Officials said that terrorists had detonated an IED which was hidden in a dumper. They did the job with a remote-controlled device. Fortunately, no one was injured in the blast.

Jammu and Kashmir Police saved people from another potential tragedy when they recovered an IED weighing 6-6.5 kilogram from the Jammu bus stand. In January this year, a soldier lost his life and three others suffered injuries in an IED explosion at Kulgam in South Kashmir. The IED was placed inside a school in the Shamshipura area when a road opening party of the Army was conducting a sanitisation drill.
