JUTA buckles under pressure of Jammu University administration, decides to resume teaching

After days of protest demonstration and remaining away from classes, Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) has finally buckled under the pressure of Vice Chancellor’s administration and decided to resume classes.

While the JUTA is terming resumption of classes as change of strategy, insiders say that leaders of the association were under immense pressure and were not able to handle the situation. JUTA was protesting demanding job for the wife of Dr Chander Shekhar of Psychology Department who committed suicide.

“In a meeting of Executive Council today, the JUTA decided to change the mode of protest and mount pressure on University Administration in support of their demands. From the day one, attempts have been made by the administration to shift the responsibility for academic loss of the students on the on the teachers, whereas, it was the administration that is responsible for bringing the system to the grinding halt” an official statement by JUTA stated.

It stated “by taking the pro-students view of things, JUTA has maintained their commitment that teaching and research is their priority. It was decided in the meeting that the teachers will resume all academic duties like delivering lectures and guiding research scholars from tomorrow i.e. 28th of September 2022. Teachers will go to the classes by wearing black badges and will observe total non-cooperation with the university administration with regard to NAAC accreditation”.

The statement added that it was also decided that no official communication from the office of the Registrar will be honoured and responded to till the case of appointment of Dr Chandra Shekhar’s wife on compassionate ground is forwarded to the office of Lieutenant Governor by the administration and the Registrar is removed from the official position.
