Kashmir valley sees fresh snowfall;Gurez-Bandipora road closed

Srinagar :- Several parts of Kashmir woke up to snowfall on Thursday morning, with the Gurez sector experiencing heavy enough snowfall to warrant road closures for safety.Local officials confirmed that snowfall began in the early hours in Gurez and surrounding areas. As conditions worsened, authorities were forced to suspend all traffic movement on the strategic Gurez-Bandipora road.

“Movement on the Gurez-Bandipora road shall remain suspended till further orders,” a district official stated, emphasizing that snow clearance operations would begin as soon as weather conditions improve.The snowfall wasn’t limited to Gurez alone. Higher elevation areas across Kashmir, including Achabal in Anantnag district, reported light to moderate snowfall.

In response to the weather conditions, authorities have issued advisories urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel in affected regions.The Meteorological Department has predicted continued snowfall in Kashmir’s higher reaches over the next 24 hours, with some lower-lying areas expected to receive rainfall. This weather system marks a significant winter weather event for the region, particularly affecting transportation and daily life in the higher elevations.

As the situation develops, local authorities remain on alert to respond to any weather-related emergencies and ensure public safety. Residents are advised to stay updated with official announcements regarding road closures and weather conditions.
