Key govt departments in J&K turn “headless” after major administrative reorganization

Even though the Government has done a major reshuffle at administrative level recently, there are some important departments which have become headless and no official has been deputed to manage them. Proper functioning of these departments can’t be carried because of absence of a head figure.

GAD recently issued transfer and posting orders of senior officials. Director of School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta was posted as Deputy Commissioner in Samba. Other than her, Director Geology & Mining J&K Vikas Sharma was also transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner in Doda. But even after one week has passed, government has failed to send their replacements yet.

Sources said that these important departments can’t function without their head. Many senior officers are also waiting for adjustment by the General Administration Department. A delegation of employees complained that when government is expected to improve functioning of departments, they are trying to make these departments defunct by constantly keeping them headless.

The UT administration must take cognizance of the issue as key departments remaining headless for a long time is a problematic thing. This will negatively affect overall functioning, progress and accountability of these offices.

Commissioner/Secretary to GAD Manoj Kumar Dwivedi assured that they are constantly working to find suitable officers to head these important directorates. The government will post officials soon in these vacant posts.
