Know about J&K’s Taekwondo star Afreen Hyder who battled her way to success

Every sportsperson in one way or other faces hardships of some type but these sports stars teaches us how willpower and determination can help one to achieve their dreams and can place success in one’s hand.

Such great story of success comes from Jammu and Kashmir who is beating all odds to achieve her dreams in less talked about sport Taekwondo.

Taekwondo star Afreen Hyder started playing Taekwondo at a very early age. Afreen is linked with traditional art of Taekwondo and has been participating in International Taekwondo competitions all over the World conducted by World Taekwondo Association (WTA). Afreen chose up this sport from her school in Srinagar and asked her sports teacher to train her in this sport.

She played her first Nationals in 2010 and won a gold medal there and it became the turning point of her life. Since then she has been continuously playing for national and international levels. In 2017, she became the first ever official junior medallist in the history of J&K taekwondo. Also, she also got selected in team India in 2017 and played the first International women’s championship at Nepal and won a bronze medal there.

She also recently took part in three back to back G2 level Taekwondo competitions held in Tehran, Iran. Previously Afreen has participated in international competitions held in Saudi Arabia, India, Iran and Nepal.

Afreen said that previously there were many less girls who opted this sport but now the things have changed and she hopes that more and more girls come out to choose this sport and represent India at international level. She further added that she always wanted to break the stereotype in Kashmir and her goal kept her going ahead. Afreen said that her mother is her role model and she was always supported by her parents.
