Kot Bhawal jail staff under scanner after recovery of mobiles, electronic gadgets

It’s been a week since the Jammu and Kashmir police recovered mobile phones and SIM cards from some inmates of the Kot Bhalwal Central Jail during a surprise checking.

Now many of the staff members of Kot Bhawal jail are being questioned by the agencies for finding out their contact or any involvement with anti-social elements. Though there has been no formal arrest of any person but the high level investigation is underway.

The raid was conducted by a team of police and CID wing at Kot Bhawal jail on July 15, and police recovered and seized mobile phones, SIM cards, and other electronic gadgets which were being used by inmates lodged in the jail.

This highly sensitive jail is infamous for UN-designated terrorist and founder of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Masood Azhar, who was once detained here. During the Khandhar Hijacking episode, Masood Azhar was released from this jail.


There are over 800 prisoners, including Pakistani and local terrorists in this prison.
