A former J&K minister Lal Singh was today remanded to 7 days custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), a day after he was arrested in an alleged money laundering case.

A special court had yesterday dismissed his anticipatory bail after which he was arrested by the ED.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashwani Khajuria said that the court granted ED 7 days remand of Lal Singh instead of 14 days sought by the agency.

Lal Singh was shifted to the Government Medical College when he complained of uneasiness. However, he alleged that he was not given proper treatment and was discharged at 3 pm after which he was taken to the court. Lal Singh was twice MP and thrice MLA and he switched from Congress to BJP in 2014 and was a minister in the BJP-PDP coalition government.

Lal Singh’s supporters gathered outside the hospital and raised slogans against BJP. They claimed their leader was being framed in a cooked up case ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has criticised arrest of Lal Singh. The party said that the law should  take it’s  own course, not in case of Lal Singh only but every such  matter, which requires investigation. Selective approach, politics of vendetta and misuse of agencies have become order of the day,

The Congress party said this while strongly reacting today to the arrest of Former minister Lal Singh by the ED.  JKPCC Senior Vice President Shri Ravinder Sharma said this in tweet on X today.

Congress has said that law should take it’s own course in every case which requires investigation . It should be principle & approach  in every serious allegations in public domain against high ups &  should be investigated. He was hinting at various matters of serious allegations in public domain against bigwigs in the government and ruling party, which also should have been investigated like this, by the ED Or any other investigation agencies & outcome known to the general public ,if there is no selective approach , otherwise it only strengthens the belief regarding  the politics of vendetta by BJP government.

Since Lal Singh was an eye sore for BJP, the allegations against him are being investigated , even after a challan already produced by CBI in the matter , although it is the domain of law enforcement agencies, he added.
