Liquor in Ladakh: Issuance of new licenses discussed

The Deputy Excise Commissioner (DEC)  Union Territory of Ladakh chaired  a review meeting regarding Excise Revenue, issuance of new license, e-auction process, setup of checkpoint at Minamarg and Upshi, setting up an laboratory and  enhanced enforcement drive.

During the meeting I/c Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) of the Excise Range Leh/Kargil put forward the details of the Excise Revenue, Liquor Stock of the Civil as well as CSD and Para military force and existing types of liquor before the DEC Ladakh.

The DEC Ladakh has directed Excise and Taxation Officer Excise Range Leh/Kargil to recommend the unserved and underserved areas of UT of Ladakh for issuance of new license.

He also gave the direction to prepare a policy for e-auction process for issuance of new Liquor license in UT of Ladakh.

Due the cessation of Toll Post and increasing sale of illicit liquor and black marketing in the UT , the DEC Ladakh has directed  ETO Excise to improve the enforcement drive and proposed the established of Checkpoint at Minamarg and Upshi to closely monitor the import and Export of contraband items and all the commodities.

As the Ladakh UT has two districts Kargil and Leh, the DEC Ladakh directed the ETO to propose the establishment of a Sub-Office of Excise Department in Kargil region as well. He also gave the directions for the proposal of establishment of a laboratory for examining the illicit liquor.
