A protest demonstration was held against APCO construction company and NHIDCL in Ganderbal district by the residents of Shitkadi village of Sonamarg against blasting at the Z-Morh tunnel.

Residents alleged that the company failed to pay compensation to them regarding the blasting at Z-Morh tunnel which caused cracks in residents houses.

Locals said that blasting in the Z-Morh tunnel caused cracks in houses and despite so many requests being made none of the concerned agencies listened to them. Even after so many years passed, compensation is still delayed. A residents said, “Our houses were situated near Z-Morh Tunnel and we lived under constant fear and were not able to remain inside their home peacefully”.

A local Abdul Hamid informed that the government had formed a committee in 2017 to figure out the damages made by the blasting work. After so many years even, the concerned authorities neither submitted any reports nor did they receive any compensation for the same.

Another resident, Mushtaq Ahmad, said that around 70 families have been living in constant fear for the last five years. No concerned agencies have heard their pleads. Nobody is concerned about the pollution caused by construction.

As per reports, General Manager NHIDCL V Panday said that another company was responsible for this matter when cracks were developed in 2016 as this issue is old.

He also said that a committee has been made about reporting on this issue. Matter is being looked up by the higher authorities and whatever is necessary at their end will be done.
