Many people took to streets in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir after the killing of government employee Rahul Bhat.

Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists inside his office in the Union territory’s Budgam district a day ago.

Massive protests have been staged by people who raised slogans against the administration while demanding security and justice. Some protestors stated that if the administration failed to provide security, Kashmir Pandits employed as government employees, will resort to mass resignation from their respective posts.

The protesters first assembled at the Sheikhpora area of Budgam district, in central Kashmir, and then tried to proceed towards the airport but were stopped by a posse of police personnel, reportedly. Meanwhile, police fired tear gas shells at protestors to prevent them from moving towards the Airport Road in Budgam.

The protestors, including government officers and their families, camped at the migrant colony at Vesu-Qazigund in the Anantnag district and demanded that the Lieutenant Governor administration should ensure that Kashmiri Pandits are safe in the valley.

Last rites of Rahul Bhat were conducted on Friday. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Mukesh Singh, Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner Avny Lavasa also reached the cremation ground.
