MBBS Interns suspend agitation following health minister’s assurance of stipend hike within one month

The MBBS Interns on Tuesday suspended with immediate effect their ongoing strike for higher stipend after an assurance by the health minister Sakina Itoo.

In a letter to the Principal, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, leaders of the striking Interns have said “We, the MBBS interns of Government Medical College, Jammu, hereby wish to inform you that, following our meeting with Hon’ble Health & Medical Education Minister, Ms. Sakina Itoo, we have been assured that the stipend of MBBS interns will be revised and enhanced within one month”.

“In view of this assurance and in the interest of maintaining uninterrupted patient care and academic activities, we have decided to temporarily call off our ongoing strike for a period of one month, with effect from today”.

“This decision is being taken in good faith and solely on the basis of the assurance given by the Hon’ble Minister. We sincerely hope that the promised revision in stipend will be implemented within the assured timeframe”.

“We would like to clarify that this is a temporary suspension of the strike and not a withdrawal of our demand. In the event that the promised revision is not implemented within the stipulated one-month period, we shall be compelled to reconsider our course of action”.

“We thank the college administration and the Hon’ble Minister for hearing our concerns and assuring us of a timely resolution”, they said.
