Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) organized the Grand Finale of a Quiz Competition for nursing students from across the Jammu Division at the Sanjeevani Auditorium to mark World Health Day. The event celebrated the spirit of learning, awareness and professional excellence in the healthcare sector.
The event was jointly organized by SMVDIME and Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, in collaboration with the Nursing Council J&K and the Academy of Hospital Administration (AHA), Jammu Chapter.
Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from nursing students, who showcased their knowledge and clinical acumen through a series of challenging and engaging quiz rounds. The competition was designed to test participants on diverse aspects of healthcare, including general medicine, nursing practices, patient care and current health issues for promoting academic excellence and critical thinking.
The Grand Finale featured four teams representing different zones of the Jammu Division, shortlisted from the zonal-level competition held on March 24, 2026. The participating institutions included the Government College of Nursing, Gangyal (GMC Jammu); College of Nursing, ASCOMS, Sidhra; Government College of Nursing, Reasi (GMC Udhampur); and DRD College of Nursing, Rajbagh, Kathua.
After a closely contested competition comprising six rounds, the Government College of Nursing, Gangyal (GMC Jammu) secured the first position, followed by the Government College of Nursing, Reasi (GMC Udhampur) in second place, while DRD College of Nursing, Kathua, secured the third position. The College of Nursing, ASCOMS, Sidhra, was awarded the consolation prize. The winners were felicitated with mementos and certificates by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest commended the organizers for conducting such an innovative and impactful initiative, emphasizing that sustained academic engagement plays a vital role in enhancing the professional competencies of nursing students, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and better public health outcomes.
Welcoming the Chief Guest and other dignitaries, Dr. Yashpal Sharma Executive Director, SMVDIME highlighted the significance of observing World Health Day through innovative academic initiatives aimed at enhancing knowledge, skills and awareness among nursing students at both institutional and community levels.
The event was attended by faculty members and healthcare professionals, including the Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu and President, Nursing Council J&K; Principals of GMC Rajouri, GMC Kathua, and GMC Udhampur; Registrar, Nursing Council J&K; Facility Director, SMVDNSH; President, AHA Jammu Chapter; and Dean Academics, SMVDIME, among other distinguished dignitaries. Students from various government and private nursing institutions across the Jammu Division also participated in the event.
