Jammu and Kashmir government is busy in saving its image even as 62 more deaths – 39 from Jammu and 23 from Kashmir division – were reported on Wednesday.
Public Relations department is working round the clock issuing statements about the “efforts of government against the pandemic”. However the reality on ground seems different as daily death rate in the UT has remained above 60 for past many days now.
While the government has miserably failed in bringing any relief to the people of the UT, its PR department is working to save the image of the administration.
“Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today visited the DRDO Hospital site Bhagwati Nagar here and inspected the ongoing construction works there. During the visit, Advisor Bhatnagar said that the facility is being built on war footing basis and after its completion, the health infrastructure of Jammu division will be upgraded and will help in providing better treatment to the public in view of COVID-19” a statement by a government spokesperson read.
Another statement on Wednesday read, “Sub District Hospital, Kupwara, situated in the heart of Kupwara town has been functioning as a COVID designated hospital since the second wave of COVID started, last month and is providing treatment to the people affected by the deadly infection.
District Administration headed by Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara along with team of senior doctors are putting strenuous efforts to ensure all possible facilities are in place at the COVID Hospital. The Hospital initially started with of 100 beds and 30 more beds have been added to further build up its bed capacity”.
Another statement about Kathua district stated, “Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rahul Yadav today said that the district is fully equipped for effective management of covid surge with adequate bed capacity and oxygen supply. He was briefing the media about the control and management measures put in place by the district administration to fight second wave of corona pandemic. The DC informed that the positivity rate in the district was on decline in last few days with 200 cases per day. He also informed that against 1578 active cases in last week the district is now having 1413 which also shows a declining trend”.
However anger among the people of Jammu and Kashmir was growing with every passing day as the administration has not been able to bring down the rate of deaths due to Covid.
