Priya Sethi led BJP team felicitates veteran journalist SP Sharma, eminent dental surgeon Dr. Gautam Sharma under ‘Sewa Pakhwada’

As part of the ongoing fortnight-long ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ being observed across the country to commemorate the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a delegation of senior BJP leaders, led by the party’s vice-president and former education minister Mrs. Priya Sethi, today felicitated veteran journalist S.P. Sharma and eminent dental surgeon Dr. Gautam Sharma in recognition of their distinguished contributions in their respective fields.

The ‘Sewa Pakhwada’ programme encompasses a wide range of activities, including health camps, cleanliness drives, plantation initiatives, and felicitation of prominent personalities, aimed at fostering the spirit of service and social responsibility.

Among others in the BJP team were Naresh Jasrotia, president (Jammu South district), Kulbir Singh Charak, general secretary (Jammu South), Divya Jain (president, Mahila Morcha, Jammu South), Dr. Himja Mengi, vice-president, BJYM, and Akash Deepak, IT Cell incharge (Jammu South).

The BJP leaders presented mementos to Mr. Sharma and Dr. Gautam on behalf of Mr. Sat Sharma, President BJP, J&K UT.

‘Sewa Pakhwada’, is being observed from the birthday of PM Modi on September 17  to October 2, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

BJP has placed its two core issues, ‘Swadeshi’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, at the centre of the fortnight-long nationwide campaign.

Mrs. Sethi said PM Modi has consistently underscored the importance of public service and social reforms, first as Gujarat Chief Minister and later as Prime Minister.

She highlighted the government’s flagship programmes, environmental initiatives, and outreach to marginalised sections, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision that politics is meant to serve people, particularly the poor and downtrodden.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. SP Sharma during his 50 years in journalism has worked in all northern states, J&K, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. He covered militancy in Punjab and J&K.

Mr. Sharma has received excellence in journalism awards from the governments of J&K and Himachal Pradesh.

Dr. Gautam Sharma is dental surgeon at the University of Jammu and former President of Indian Dental Association, Jammu. He has conducted more than 200 dental awareness and check-up camps for the poor.

During the recent floods, Dr. Gautam Sharma was instrumental in providing health and sanitation services to the flood-hit residents of the Old Campus of the University of Jammu on the Canal Road. He has received awards from the IDA.
