Residents protest against frequent power cuts in RS Pura villages
Residents of Biaspur Parlah in R.S. Pura staged a strong protest against the Power Development Department (PDD), expressing resentment over prolonged and unscheduled power cuts that have severely disrupted daily life amid the ongoing heatwave.
A large number of men and women gathered in the locality carrying placards and raising slogans against the department and the government. The protesters alleged that electricity supply in the area has become highly erratic, with outages extending for several hours every day, leaving residents to endure unbearable heat without power.
The agitating residents said that despite paying electricity bills regularly, they continue to face frequent and unscheduled power interruptions. “We pay our bills on time every month, but the department has failed to ensure a reliable power supply. People are suffering due to the prolonged outages, especially during the hottest hours of the day and at night,” they said.
The protesters highlighted that the power crisis has affected every section of society, including students preparing for examinations, elderly citizens, women, and patients, who are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with the extreme weather conditions.
Demanding immediate restoration of regular electricity supply, the residents urged the authorities to take urgent measures to improve power distribution in the area and put an end to the unscheduled cuts.
They warned that if the electricity situation is not addressed without delay, they would be compelled to intensify their agitation and hold larger demonstrations in the coming days.
The protest reflects the growing public anger over the recurring power outages being reported from several parts of Jammu region as temperatures continue to soar.
