Punjab oil tanker driver arrested in Udhampur, 344 kg poppy straw seized

Udhampur Police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance ‘poppy straw’ and held one person with  more than 344 kgs of poppy straw at Motorshed, NHW, Chenani, police said.

Amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team of PS Chenani led by its SHO Inspector. Pushpinder Singh while on naka checking at zeropoint, Chenani stopped one oil tanker bearing Registration number HR37E 6227 for checking which was coming from Srinagar towards Jammu. In the process of search, 23 bags (total net quantity 344 kgs 100 grams) filled with poppy straw like substance got recovered from the above said vehicle.

On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Harpreet Singh S/O Surjit Singh R/O Jastana Khurd, Dera Bassi Mohalla Punjab. The said accused Person was arrested on the spot, vehicle and contraband seized, police said.

In this connection, a Case FIR NO. 118/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in P/S Chenani and investigation of the case has been taken up.
