Rail engine derails in Lakhanpur due to landslide

The engine of a goods train on its way from Jammu to Punjab today derailed near Lakhanpur in the Kathua district in the morning due to a landslide triggered following heavy rainfall.
A railway official said that heavy rain triggered the landslide, causing derailment of the engine near Lakhanpur around 7am.
He said the track was inundated, blocking rail traffic for more than two hours.
Railway officials reached the spot along with equipment and put rail services back on track.
However, five passenger trains coming to Jammu were delayed by two hours as these were halted at Pathankot and Sujanpur in Punjab. Rail traffic resumed on the track at about 9.30 am.
The incident occurred near Lakhanpur after debris from a landslide fell onto the railway track.
Heavy rains also washed away the Lakhanpur–Jagatpur link road in Kathua.
A big tree fell on the road in the A/D Sector of the posh Gandhi Nagar colony where vehicular traffic remained disrupted.
The weather office had predicted heavy rain and flash-floods due to heavy rain.
