The “Bombay Begums” series by Director Alankrita Shrivastava, depicting the lives of five contemporary Indian women in Mumbai, is scheduled to launch on Netflix on March 8, International Women’s Day.
The stars of the series are Pooja Bhatt, Amruta Subhash, Aadhya Anand, Plabita Borthakur, Rahul Bose, Danish Husain, Shahana Goswami and Vivek Gomber.
Shrivastava, known best for her movies “Lipstick Under My Burkha” and “Dolly Kitty Aur Vo Chamakate Sitaare” wished that the story will be related to women in India and around the world.
The series follows the dynamic journey of working Indian women who are determined for power and achievement, but also contend with several other fights.
“It’s the tale of their daily grind, the tale of their desires, sometimes obscured, sometimes accomplished,” Shrivastav, the producer and director of the series, said in a statement.
She has sought to create a society that represents the experiences of urban working people, the director said.
“I hope the viewer responds to the actors and sees parts of the plot mirrored in their own journey. I am happy and proud that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Bombay Begums will be on Netflix.”
The story, produced by Endemol Shine India, Endeavor Material, Chernin Entertainment, revolves around five women in contemporary urban India over generations who struggle with desire, ethics, personal crises and limitations to own their ambition.
