Relief distributed to cloudburst hit in Kishtwar
In the aftermath of the cloudburst that struck parts of Sub-Division Thathri in Kishtwar district yesterday, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Thathri Sheetal Sharma today undertook an extensive field assessment of the affected areas to review the extent of damage and oversee the ongoing relief and restoration operations.
During the inspection, the SDM assessed damage caused to residential houses and public infrastructure, including assets belonging to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department and the Power Development Department (PDD).
The highway, which was temporarily disrupted due to the incident, was restored for single-lane traffic yesterday itself. Efforts are presently underway on a war footing to achieve full restoration and facilitate smooth two-way movement at the earliest.
The SDM emphasised the need for seamless inter-departmental coordination and directed field functionaries to maintain a continuous presence in the affected localities to oversee relief measures reach every affected household without delay.
To provide immediate succour to affected families, the Revenue Department has initiated the distribution of essential relief material, including mattresses and blankets. Additional assistance, wherever warranted, shall also be extended in accordance with established norms and procedures.
