Season’s first snowfall in higher reaches of J&K, Ladakh

Season’s first snowfall was witnessed in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday and minimum temperature dropped across the Union territories. Snowfall was reported in Zojila Pass, Gulmarg ski resort and other higher reaches.

As per reports minimum temperatures dropped all across J&K and Ladakh. Minimum temperature was 9.8 degrees Celsius in Srinagar, 6.7 in Pahalgam and 1.5 in Gulmarg. It was 5.6 in Leh and 3.1 in Drass town. Whereas Jammu recorded 20.1, Katra 15.8, Batote 9.1, Banihal 8.0 and Bhaderwah 9.2 as the night’s lowest temperature.

Bandipora-Gurez road has been shut due to the snowfall in Gurez valley of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district as the road is in slippery condition. As per the officials, Gurez valley’s Dissan, a high altitude hamlet received snowfall while the plains were lashed with rains, which continued throughout the night. Officials believe with a rise in day temperature, the road will be opened soon

A MeT department official said that the weather is likely to improve in the afternoon as the Western Disturbance (WD) presently active over Jammu and Kashmir is moving North West.

Fresh snowfall was also witnessed by the Amarnath Cave Temple in Anantnag.
