Jammu : In a major security operation, forces launched anti-terror operations at around three dozen places throughout the Jammu region on Saturday, security officials said. The large-scale operations were initiated in response to reports of suspicious activity in some areas, while others were carried out as part of routine area domination drills.
The operations extend across several districts, ranging from the border areas of Poonch and Rajouri to the hilly regions of Udhampur-Kathua, the mountainous regions of Doda and Kishtwar, and the forests along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu district. Security personnel said that although operations are in progress, no contact has been made with any terrorists yet.
A specific search operation was launched in Maidaan Mohalla in Sangiote panchayat of Gursai, Poonch district, based on a tip regarding two suspected foreign terrorists moving around late Friday night under the veil of darkness. The security forces also mounted cordon and search operations in various areas such as Mohalla Qasba, Allapir, Jaalian in Mandi, Mankote in Poonch, and Dera Ki Gali and portions of Sunderbani and Nowshera sectors in adjacent Rajouri district.
The large-scale operation includes 13 places in the Poonch-Rajouri sector and 18 areas in the higher reaches of Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, and Kishtwar districts, with special focus on the Khaderan forest. Also, search operations are going on in Keri, Bhattal, and surrounding areas under the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district.
