Security tightened at Delhi borders ahead of farmers protest at Jantar Mantar

Farmers started arriving at Jantar Mantar on Monday morning ahead of proposed Kisan Mahapanchayat. Security has been beefed up by the Delhi police at Delhi borders ahead of a proposed Kisan Mahapanchayat (grand assembly of farmers) in central Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Farmers from different states are expected to participate in the assembly to press for demands including a law guaranteeing minimum support prices for their produce.

“The mahapanchayat is a one day-long peaceful event where we will reiterate our demands such as a legal guarantee on MSP and cancellation of Electricity Amendment Bill 2022 among others,” said Abhimanyu Singh Kohar, SKM (non-political) member and organizer of the ‘mahapanchayat’.
