Shreya Gupta first J&K woman fencer to receive state award

An ace fencer and international medallist Shreya Gupta received prestigious State Award from GAD officers in simple ceremony held at civil secretariat, Jammu.

She is the woman fencer and third overall recipient of this award among the fencers. The J&K Govt has bestowed this coveted award on Shreya Gupta for her outstanding achievements in the field of fencing game.

The award carries cash prize of Rs 51,000, a gold medal and a citation. Shreya Gupta was conferred State award in 2019 on eve of Republic day. Shreya an athlete of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has always been in the forefront in bringing medals for country and J&K UT at both National and international arena.

Recently, she has won bronze medal in recently concluded Commonwealth championship held at London from 9th -20th August, 2022. Till date she has been fifteen times national champion in different categories of Fencing and has won three medals in international competitions.

She has already received Sher-i-Kashmir award for excellence in sports by J&k Govt., S.Rangil Singh Award by JKOA and Veermata Jijabai awards. She expressed her thanks to hon’ble LG Sh. Manoj Sinha ji for encouraging and supporting sportspersons by making sports policy for the outstanding players.

She was all praise for Secretary, J&k Sports Council, Mrs Nuzhut Gull for her continuous help and tireless efforts to make the field of sports lucrative and approachable in every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir. She was also thankful to Coaches Shotu Lal Sharma, Rachna Jamwal, seniors like international fencers Ujwal Gupta, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary.
