The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to investigate sacrilege cases in Punjab has filed the first challan in a case of sacrilege of Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib.

The challan by the SIT was filed before a court in Faridkot, disclosed SIT chief and IGP border range Amritsar SPS Parmar.

Punjab witnessed series of cases where Guru Granth Sahib was desecrated in different parts of the state. The issue created a major political storm during 2017 state assembly polls.

Experts believe that with the assembly pools approaching, sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib can again become a political tool in the hands of government as well as opposition including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
