The government stated in the Rajya Sabha that a total of six Kashmiri Pandits were murdered by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir in 2020, 2021, and 2022. The government was questioned about the details of Kashmiri Pandits. The government also mentioned that in 2022, not a single Kashmiri Pandit departed from the Kashmir valley.

Four of the six murders occurred in 2021, one on July 20 of this year, and one occurred in 2020. Nine government workers (excluding security forces) have perished in terror-related events in J&K since August 2019, including one Kashmiri Pandit.

According to Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, there were 6,514 Kashmiri Pandits living in the Valley, with the highest concentration being 2,639 in the Kulgam district, as of 20 July. He also mentioned that 5,502 Kashmiri Pandits have been offered government jobs in various departments. Javed Ali Khan from Samajwadi Party asked this question during Question Hour.

The news comes at a time when there have been allegations of Kashmiri Pandits leaving the Valley and several members of the minority group in J&K have been the targets of targeted assassinations since last year.

He said that the security situation had greatly improved, which had led to a considerable drop in terror attacks from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021. The Minister added that migrants from Kashmir have been housed in the Kashmir Division’s safer areas.
