Srinagar : In an ongoing counter-terrorism operation in North Kashmir, a soldier was injured during a renewed exchange of fire between security forces and militants in the Gujjarpati area of Zaloora, Sopore, on Monday morning.
The encounter, which initially began on Sunday evening, had been temporarily suspended during the night due to darkness.The operation commenced on Sunday when joint teams comprising the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu & Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in the Gujjarpati area. During the initial phase of the operation, security forces successfully uncovered a militant hideout. The situation escalated into an armed encounter when militants opened fire on the search party.
According to official sources, the operation was strategically paused overnight due to visibility concerns. As dawn broke on Monday, the exchange of fire resumed, resulting in one soldier sustaining injuries in the ongoing gunfight. The wounded soldier’s condition and identity have not been disclosed at this time.The security operation remains active in the area, with additional forces maintaining a tight cordon to prevent any potential escape attempts by the militants.
