The 45th meeting of the Governing Body of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN) was held today at its campus at Kakryal under the Chairmanship of Suresh Kumar Sharma (Retired Judge) Member, SMVDSB.
The meeting was attended by Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Shri Alok Kumar Maurya, Addl. Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB; Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Administrator, SMVDCoN; Dr. Sharda M. Potukuchi, Professor, Faculty of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal, SMVDCoN.
During the meeting, the Governing Body reviewed the progress on decisions taken in its earlier meetings and held comprehensive deliberations on several forward-looking proposals aimed at further strengthening academic standards and institutional development of the College.
The Governing Body also approved the celebration of a Decade of Excellence, marking the completion of 10 years of the College’s establishment and its significant contribution to healthcare education. It was decided that the celebrations will be organized throughout the year and will include a grand inaugural event, academic programmes, community engagement initiatives, National Service Scheme (NSS) and outreach activities. The year-long celebrations will culminate in a grand finale event.
The Governing Body further approved the organization of the 4th Nursing Fest “TARANG-2026”, which will feature a range of scholastic and co-scholastic activities aimed at encouraging academic excellence, creativity and holistic development among students.
While appreciating the initiative taken by the College to apply for Autonomous Status on the UGC portal, as the institution approaches the completion of its 10 years of existence, the Members also taken several faculty and student centric decisions during the meeting to promote skill development, academic excellence and the overall growth of both faculty and students.
The Governing Body also acknowledged the initiatives taken by the College to establish Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence to create better learning platforms and collaborative opportunities for students and faculty. In addition, the engagement with local Gram Panchayats for outreach and extension activities was also appreciated.
While emphasizing the importance of community engagement, Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB advised further strengthening activities aimed at greater societal contribution and expanding the outreach initiatives of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing.
