The Lt. Governor visited the injured patients’ doctors and requested them to provide the best care possible to patients for a quick recovery. The Lt. Governor also visited the hospital wards where injured patients were being treated and inquired about their health.

The Lt. Governor was informed by Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul, Director of SKIMS, about the medical facilities available to treat pilgrims who have been wounded.

According to information provided, seven pilgrims who were hurt in the terrible cloudburst are receiving medical care at the hospital and are being monitored closely by top medical personnel.

The situation of returning the mortal remains of dead pilgrims to their respective hometowns was also briefed to the Lt Governor during a later visit to PCR in Srinagar. The Lt Governor was joined by Nitishwar Kumar, the Principal Secretary to the Lt Governor, Mohd Aijaz, the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, and other senior members of the Civil and Police Administration.

The office of LG invited top leaders of the region, including PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah, chairman of the Peoples Conference Sajjad Lone, Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ravinder Raina and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI (M) general secretary Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami. The Lt Governor stated that the meeting was conducted to discuss administration of Amarnath Yatra.

Office of LG shared pictures of the political leaders who attended the meeting with Manoj Sinha. The tweet mentioned that the LG met with party leaders to discuss plans for the administration of the Shri Amarnath Yatra. Every J&K citizen is accountable for the holy pilgrimage’s effective conduction since it increases our trust in humanity’s inherent goodness.

Adding to the tweet, the Office wrote that all participants in the meeting unanimously agreed that the Shri Amarnath Yatra is akin to a large festival, a celebration of Kashmiriyat for the ordinary J&K citizen. Each and every resident of the UT will provide the pilgrims with warm hospitality and comfort.

However, unlike other senior political leaders of the region, J&K Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti was absent in the meeting. Earlier, her party’s Chief Spokesperson Syed Suhail Bukhari tweeted to complain that his party received an invitation only in the morning for a meeting scheduled for the evening that day. He also raised questions over outcome of the all-parties meeting chaired by the Prime Minister’s Office earlier.

Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti had tweeted that even though shops have been shut as security precautions for the Amarnath Yatra, it is Kashmiris who provide a real sense of security to Amarnath Yatra pilgrims.

After taking over as LG of J&K in August 2020, this is the first time when Manoj Sinha has invited top political leaders of the region. In May, the leaders of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) met with the lieutenant governor at Raj Bhawan to seek protection for the migrant Pandit employees after the death of Kashmiri immigrant worker Rahul Bhat at Chadoora in Budgam.

The police further stated that after learning of reports of militant activity in the region, the security personnel conducted a cordon and search operation. A confrontation that started as a search operation ended in killing of two terrorists.

In a tweet by Kashmir Zone Police, Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police mentioned that both the slain terrorists have been recognised as local terrorists of terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba. The encounter is very important given that the operation site is quite close to Amarnath Yatra route.

According to a police official, suspicious activity was detected in an adjacent orchard as a joint police and army party was examining suspected locations along the national highway close to Mir Bazaar.

The official claimed that after cordoning off the area, the party came under terrorist fire, which was returned, resulting in an encounter. Two terrorists were killed as the operation came to a close. They were named as Yasir Wani and Raees Manzoor. Raees joined the terrorist ranks just two months ago, whereas Yasir is a long-time LeT member who is wanted in numerous violent crimes. He started acting as a terrorist in 2020.

After a two-year hiatus, the 43-day Amarnath Yatra to the sacred cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas is set to start from today.

Speaking during the launch of mobile application, Dwivedi said that for smooth facilitation of holy devotees, 150 health facilities have been established from Lakhanpur to Holy Cave by health authorities and it has all been made available on the App with all the coordinates and the distance from the individual accessing the App/portal.

The Principal Secretary further said that the Department of Health has also deployed around 1500 highly skilled health personnel for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2022 duties, while as there has been a threefold increase in infrastructure during this year’s Yatra. He added that this has been made to ensure seamless and smooth delivery of health care to the pilgrims by the UT administration.

The Principal Secretary also remarked that mobile application shall subsequently cover all the 3500 health institutions of UT of J&K and asked the officers for mapping entire health infrastructure of J&K through this application so that general masses can be benefited through this mobile app.

Dwivedi also appreciated the department for taking this initiative forward as well as for implementation and the launch of the portal/application in short period.

 Pertinently, under the newly launched Mobile App, mobile ambulances network including 102 and 108 ambulance system of more than 200 ambulances has also been mapped through the application and shall also be available in real time for the pilgrims. By pressing one button on the application, the nearest ambulances driver shall get activated and reach that spot which shall also merge with the “Google maps” to give directions and indicate the anticipated time to reach that health facility. The Do’s and Don’ts for the pilgrims have also been incorporated into the application for the safety of the pilgrims.

The yatra will come to an end on 11 August. LG was accompanied by various political leaders and officials including Jammu Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta and BJP leader Devender Rana.

As the starting date for Amarnath Yatra is inching closer, Jammu and Kashmir administration has put in place high-level security for safety of pilgrims. Security arrangements have been specially strengthened in Kashmir valley to ensure that yatra is conducted peacefully.

The whole yatra route, including the mountains in central and southern Kashmir, will be under three tiers of protection. High ranking security officials have been holding meetings for the past week to ensure the safety of pilgrims in yatra. Government officials are expecting around seven to eight lakh pilgrims from across the nation to visit the sacred cave. More than three lakh pilgrims have already registered for the yatra.

Vijay Kumar, Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir, paid a visit to the holy cave and the yatri camp, Panjtarni on Tuesday to inspect the level of security arrangements. A police spokesperson told that the IGP participated in a security review meeting with officers from the army, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, JKP, NDRF and the civil administration. After that, the IGP also assessed the force deployment and gave instructions for improved coordination and teamwork to facilitate a seamless and incident-free yatra.

One day before, on Monday, he was also present at the final joint security review meeting attended by top police officers as well as the senior army officers in Anantnag. The IGP underscored the need to improve the intelligence grid in order to counter the direct threat posed by terrorists. The J&K police spokesperson stated that he discussed potential threats for the yatra and highlighted the need for the setting up of an efficient security grid. Officials specially discussed a district-by-district security review and took stock of the preparations made for the yatra. A special focus was given on the four south Kashmiri districts of Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, and Anantnag.

Police spokesperson said that senior Army and other security force officers also gave a thorough presentation and shared their ideas and recommendations for improving the overall security grid and giving the yatris foolproof security support on their journeys to and from Amarnath.

According to the spokesman, the IGP also stressed the need for various checking posts to be set up in order to prevent chaos by preventing unregistered yatris from reaching base camp. Security agencies have boosted the number of troopers engaged for the security of the yatra than in earlier periods. The yatra, which is taking place after two years, is set to commence on June 30.
