Kashmir continues to face severe heat waves as Srinagar’s maximum temperature even surpasses that of Jammu on Thursday. MeT officials reported that Jammu reached 34 degrees Celsius while Srinagar recorded 34.2 degrees Celsius for the day.

As Friday is expected to be cloudy, there may be some relief from the heat waves, according to MeT officials.

Sonam Lotus, the director of MeT, stated that June is a typical month for high temperatures. From the next week, temperatures will rise once more and may even reach 36 degrees C.

There is every likelihood of mild to moderate rain for the next four days in Jammu and Kashmir, he added. Once this spell of rain is over, the temperature in the region will pick up again.

On Thursday morning, MeT officials said that the monsoon has reached Jammu. The MeT officials stated that Jammu residents should expect frequent showers which might be occasionally severe. Rain is anticipated to fall through July 5 in isolated bursts, especially early in the day.

According to them, the daytime temperature in Srinagar was 5.1°C above average for this time of year and more than 0.2°C higher than Wednesday. They claimed that it remained the third highest in Srinagar for the last 12 years.

For the month of June, Srinagar witnessed a temperature of 34.7°C on 9 June, 2021. In the last 12 years, the maximum June temperature in Srinagar hit a peak of 35°C on June 3, 2018. The June 29, 1978 reading of 37.8°C in Srinagar was the highest June temperature ever recorded in the region.

According to MeT officials, Qazigund reported a maximum temperature of 31.9°C, down from 32.5°C the day before. The gateway town of Kashmir had a temperature 4.2°C above average.

They informed that Pahalgam recorded a maximum temperature of 29.2°C as opposed to 28.9°C the day before. The popular resort in south Kashmir experienced temperatures that were 4.4°C higher than average.

In contrast to the previous day’s 31.7°C, Kokernag registered 30.9°C of temperature. According to the officials, the temperature was 3.6°C higher than usual for this time of year in south Kashmir.

Officials reported that Gulmarg in north Kashmir observed a maximum temperature of 24.2°C as opposed to 24.0°C the previous night. Although 20.6°C is typical for the renowned skiing resort at this time of year, the official reported that the temperature was 3.6°C higher than average for the famous location in the Baramulla region of north Kashmir.

According to the official, Jammu reported a maximum temperature of 31.7°C with nocturnal monsoon rain, down from 38.1°C the night before.

According to him, the temperature was 4.6°C below average for the winter capital of J&K. Bhadarwah had a minimum temperature of 32.7°C while Banihal reported a maximum temperature of 28.8°C, Batote 25.4°C, and Katra 27.4°C.

As per the weather report of Jammu, a western disturbance became the cause of thunderstorm and rain in the city.

The western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over
Afghanistan and neighborhood persists and would cause more rains and drop in
temperature in Jammu and Kashmir.

The advisory by the meteorological department stated that moisture influx from the Arabian Sea and low level easterlies from the Bay of Bengal are likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorm over parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Weather report of Jammu also stated that temperature in the city today also witnessed a fall to 32 degree that would further fall to 30 degree along with rainfall on Monday. As per weather report of Jammu, the rainfall in the region would continue for next 48 hours along with high velocity winds.

In another development, a low pressure area is likely to develop over South Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around April 30. It is likely to become more marked over the same region subsequently. Initially it is likely to move to north-west and then towards coasts of Bangladesh during subsequent 3-4 days.

The Indian Meteorological
Department has also issued warning of thunderstorm accompanied with lightening,
hail and squall in Jammu’s plains and Punjab. The wind speed in Jammu could
reach upto 30-40 Kmph at isolated places in the region.

Weather in
Srinagar today will also remain partly cloudy with the maximum temperature at
18 degree. The wind speed in Srinagar is estimated to be at 5 Kmph. Srinagar weather conditions will remain almost
same for coming three days.

Weather in Rajouri is also expected to remain cloudy with maximum
temperature at 23 degree. It is expected that it will rain heavily in Rajouri
on Sunday and Monday. At 17 degree maximum temperature, Kishtwar weather will
also remain cloudy with possibility of hail in upper reaches of the district.

As per
weather report of Jammu, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, hail and
gusty winds are very likely over isolated places in Jammu, Punjab and Haryana
among other areas.

Weather in Jammu for next 5 days will remain pleasant with rains in isolated areas.

Weather in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain pleasant as rainfall is predicted from March 31 to April 2 in the region.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to receive rainfall in the hills and even snowfall in mountainous areas from the given dates. Weather in Jammu Kashmir is pleasant for the past sometime due to the trail of western disturbances that hit the region not letting heat to sink in.

Weather in Jammu today was clear with 18 degree temperature that was not letting the people to store their woolens. According to the MeT weather in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh with witness sudden change on March 31 after a spell ofrain hits the region.

Residents of Jammu and other northern parts of the country were not witnessing the heat they used to face during this time of the year. Rather the weather in Jammu has remained pleasant letting the people to still wear woolens.

The region is hit with western disturbances one after another that has also raised doubts among the farmers in plains of Jammu and Punjab whose wheat crop has ripened and ready for harvest. Hailstorm and rainfall become a cause of worry for these farmers every year but this year the intensity of change in weather is frequent.

According to the MeT department, “a fresh spell of intermittent to moderate rain in plains and snowfall over higher reaches of J&K and Zojila, Drass and some areas of Zanskar region is most likely from March 31 to April 2”.

The department issues warnings and announcements in advance regarding any change in the weather conditions to let the general public and farmers brace themselves up for any situation. Areas in Jammu region including Bhaderwah, Doda and Kishtwar often receive snowfall when the plains of the region receive rainfall.

Many people in Jammu and Kashmir must be wondering as to why weather in Jammu was still pleasant and the temperature that used to touch more than 30 degrees by this time of the year was still below 20.

Their concerns are natural and everyone in Jammu knows about the harsh summers that start by the end of March and were so far not visible of felt anywhere in the region.

Some people may also attribute the pleasant weather to Coronavirus or COVID-19 as no vehicular emissions or pollution from factories due to the national lock-down could also be the cause of low temperature in the state.

It is a series of Western Disturbances that are hitting the northern parts of India one after another due to which it rains whenever you start feeling the heat. It is a similar western disturbance that has again hit north India and caused rains in Jammu, Punjab and Haryana among other areas.

Heavy rains and thunderstorm are likely to hit the upper reaches of Jammu region and Kashmir. The rains could continue till March 30 when another western disturbance is expected to hit the region.

While the plains of Jammu region will receive rainfall, mountainous areas including Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, hills of Udhampur and Vaishno Devi may even receive mild snowfall. Weather in Jammu for next 5 days is likely to let you remain in relief from heat.

After heavy rains in Jammu today, there may be respite from wet surroundings for two to three days but the temperature will not let Jammu forget the cold for coming week.

Many people on social media had posted that the cold weather conditions were due to the fact that there was no vehicular traffic as well as pollution from factories and other industrial units due to a lockdown owing to Coronavirus. However there is no study to suggest this reason to be true.

On the other hand, Srinagar weather forecast for 10 days suggest that the region is expected to remain in cold conditions and may also witness heavy hail in some areas.

While weather in Jammu keeps your memories of cold months afresh, you can savor specialties of Jammu including ‘malpudas’ and ‘desi chai’ to keep you hot.
