Telecommunication and connectivity issues in Ladakh discussed during high level meeting

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Ladakh, Umang Narula met officers in different Ministries in New Delhi and discussed various issues pertaining to Ladakh.

He met various high ranking officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs and requested for authorizing the UT Administration to issue advance tender notices after communication of budget ceilings, to enable the UT Administration to start the execution of works well in time. The working season in Ladakh is limited on account of harsh climatic conditions and prolonged winters.

He also requested for early creation of various posts to augment the academic and administrative functioning of the Ladakh University.

Narula also met authorities in the Civil Aviation Ministry and discussed various issues related to air connectivity of Ladakh. The Advisor requested for resumption of scheduled air service from Leh to Jammu and Srinagar. He also discussed the issue of expediting development of Kargil airport with the authorities and requested for exploring the operation of any medium sized aircrafts an interim measure to provide connectivity to the area during winters. The Ministry was also requested for early operation of air services under the UDAAN scheme to the already approved routes.

Later he met the Administrator Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) and requested for provisioning of replacement VSATs, sanction of additional towers and providing optical fiber connectivity so as to provide reliable communication facilities to unconnected and remote villages and along the highways of Ladakh.
