For the aspiring students of Jammu and Kashmir here is the list of best educational institutions in your region. Choose wisely!

1.     University of Kashmir

Founded in 1948, Kashmir University is situated at Hazratbal in Srinagar. With a total area of 247 acres of land, the university ranks 48 among the top 100 colleges in India. It has satellite campuses at Anantnag (south campus), Baramulla (north campus) along with Kupwara, Kargil and Leh. Streams offered are as followed:-

Admission is merit-based according to the score of qualifying exams for courses like MBA, MCME, MTech, BTech, IMBA, MPharma. For other courses, candidates have to appear for university entrance exam.

2.     University of Jammu

Founded in 1969, the university is situated at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Road in Jammu. It is a bifurcation of the University of Jammu and Kashmir. Courses offered by the university are:-

Admission to the undergraduate courses is done on the basis of JUET  entrance exam.

3.     Central University, Jammu

Established under the central universities act, 2009 by Govt. of India. It came to life in 2011, located in the Samba district of the Jammu region. Courses offered are:-

Admission is done through Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) conducted on all India basis.

4.     National Institute of Technology (NIT)

Established in 1960, is located in Srinagar. It is among the 31 national institutes of technology across the country which is directly under the control of HRD ministry. Courses you can apply for:-

–        Computer applications and IT

–        Engineering and Architecture

–        Management and business administration

For admission in Bachelor courses candidate’s JEE scores are considered. While scores of Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) are required for MTech and Joint admission test for M.Sc.

5.     Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University

Commonly referred to as SMVDU is a 470-acre campus located near Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. As it is located near the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi therefore it got this name. Courses offered are:-

–        Sciences

–        Management and business administration

–        Language and education

The admission process is carried out in both ways from entrance and merit basis followed by SMVDU direct counseling. Applications are available online. students looking out for B.Tech courses must have passed 10+2 with PCM and qualified JEE mains or SMVDUEE followed by SMVDU counseling.
